Wish List Item

Postby fcwilt » Thu Apr 30, 2009 7:43 pm

Hi,

Add to the wish list support for serial port servers like Moxa NPort 5410.

These NPorts are just one brand of a class of devices where serial ports on the unit can be accessed over the TCP/IP network. The serial ports can be configured (among other settings) to be accessed as a TCP server which makes access fairly simple.

Whereas the GC100 have (currently) at most 2 serial ports, the NPort devices can have 4, 8 or 16 (as I recall).

Thanks.
Regards, Frederick C. Wilt

does the moxa look like a standard com port from a PC application perspective? If so...then it should work just fine for most serial apps.

Comtrol units are like this. I have several now. No custom do dads needed for the software.

It can, you have to install a driver into Windows that looks like a standard COM port but connects to the serial port on the NPort via the network.

While it works, it's just another bit of software that needs to be installed and maintained.

A "direct" connection from ML to the Nport would just be a bit cleaner.

If you have the hardware and want to use it...load the driver software.
I doubt there is much market need for anything more custom.
