UPB Startup Issues

Postby psaport » Fri Sep 22, 2006 4:51 pm

During MLServer Startup MLLightingFamilyProperties popup says
"There was an error updating the MLLighing database." hit ok and loading continues. Look at plugin status and MLLighting plugin did not load and reports VB Err #3704 Operation is not allowed when object is closed.
At this point I can manually load it ok. When I hit settings it brings up the
setting dialog but the Grid is unpopulated from the mllighting db. If I select add I get popup and can select a upb controller, set alias etc.. then I hit ok and get popup Run-Time Error '3265' Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal. Hit ok to clear the popup, then the MLLighting setup screen hangs, and won't exit.
I have to exit MLServer to relaese the settings page. I can go in with MS Access and and look at the data in the mllighting database and see that my upb pim was added
to the controller table.
PS: Note the typo in the popup spelling - MLLighting is missing the letter T

psaport,

Please delete your file called C:\Program Files\MLServer\data\MLLighting.mdb

Then download and reinstall the MLLighting Family plugin from:
http://www.cinemaronline.com/mlserver.mllighting.html

Let me know if this resolves your current issue. Thanks for your patience.

Cannot commuicate with device >29

Postby psaport » Mon Oct 02, 2006 4:34 pm

Mario,
Thanks for the updated mllightingfamily plugin.
Overall this appears to work as designed. Can now
add controller etc...
New bug though - when reading the network to add
devices all is great unless device ID is #30 or higher.
Comes back with comment cannot contact device.

Sounds good psaport.

So device #31 won't work then or you just can't add it?

Or you can add it but not control it?

Does everything else appear to be working? On/Off/Dim/Bright and 2way status?

Clarification of Previous Post

Postby psaport » Mon Oct 02, 2006 6:39 pm

Mario,
Sorry I was not more specific. The Problem I was having was
during the network processing of the upstart export file. My network
has 43 Devices 1-43. The file processing window, reports the
status of the file import.
adding device #....
added device #....
if the device id is greater than 29
the message is
adding device 30
cannot contact device 30
adding device 31
cannot contact device 31 etc...
Control for the existing devices works fine, status variable is
updated so far so good.
I am able to add the devices that are greater than 29 by manually
putting them in the mllighting db using access.
The devices added this way control and report status as well.
As far as I can tell this error is when the upstart export is being
processed. Looks like something with how the communication string
is concactenated or generated. I was hesitant to try adding the devices by
placing them in to program mode right now, since they are already configured with upstart and will work if added to db.
Hope this helps a little more.

Not sure if you are even connected to the PLC from the UPB driver based on the info you provided.

It's important to note that you cannot have UPStart running and our plugin simultaneously since they both require connection via a com port.

Shut down UPStart and then start MLServer.

Can you post a screenshot of your UPB Pimm Controller Settings tab?
Or provide us with all the details in the PIM Information section.

Firmware Version:
Product ID:
etc.

Check to see if Device 001 is dimmable

Postby psaport » Sun Dec 10, 2006 8:43 am

Suggestion, while trying to control device 001 from the plugin does it show that dimmable is True or False. If false is the device programmed as dimmable within the options of the Upstart application. Also I have devices that are correctly programmed in upstart but do not report back to MLServer UPB plugin correctly. I am using Simply Automated switches and devices with Firmware 2.10 are not reporting dimmable enabled correctly. Devices with 2.06 work fine.

With UPB FastOn and FastOff are not valid commands.

When sending the command make sure to use the light number or alias and not the light address.
