Insteon, TED & Enphase Solar inverters

Postby ccharmatz » Tue Mar 09, 2010 10:06 am

Hello,

I was curious as to if anyone in the Cinemar community has tried the Enphase micro solar inverters and if they
interrupted or made less reliable communication with insteon or TED. They communicate over the powerline
which is where my concern comes from.

"Enphase Microinverters transmit data over the existing power line. No additional wiring is required. Once the unit is plugged into an AC outlet,"

Just in case anyone is curious I have sent messages to the folks over at the energydetective ( TED ), as well as Smarthome to see if there have been any reports of problems with using the micro inverters with the individual specific products. If nothing comes back I guess I will just order a few and try.

The TED killed my Insteon lighting too, had to disconnect it. As for Enphase, I've installed tons of these, but not yet in a home with Insteon. They are a kind of a pain, we had to move the Enphase Envoy Unit around just to get them to read. Sometimes some will show up and others won't.

While powerline carrier is convenient, more than one system per home seems to cause issues. Nuvo even has a whole house audio system that sends the audio over the powerlines.

Please report back and let us know your results.

Ok, I guess I am one of the lucky ones.. My insteon and TED 1000 work together without a problem so far in a 3k sqft home. I might be pushing it with the micro inverters but I will give it a shot.
