Selecting Zone Type and a Rain Switch

Postby DaveB » Fri Apr 16, 2010 7:12 pm

Mario;

When editing a zone, you have the ability to select a Zone Type from the drop down. There are three types available, those being Sprinkler, Master Valve and Rain Switch. This feature and its use and meaning are not currently documented in the WIKI. What is the use of the Rain Switch option and how is it to be used?
Thanks!

I'm guessing the developer meant for it to be Rain Sensor instead of Rain Switch.

Yea - Thought the same, but just was inquiring how it would work with the interface and driver. You can set a zone in the Rain8 as an input. Maybe it was never fully implemented.
Thanks!

Dave,

You had posted this before, is what you are talking about here something different?

If you use the RAIN8 configuration software, you can enable the input feature on the RAIN8. Once enabled, you must select a zone that the sensor is connect to. Once you do this, the RAIN8 looks for an open between the 2 connection points of that zone. As ling as the connection points are not shorted, the RAIN8 will operate normally. If they are shorted, the RAIN8 opens the common to all valves and thus, they close or turn off.

I believe DaveB is speaking of the same functionality. in the June note, DaveB was speaking of what the Rain8 software configuration utility and the Rain8 Hardware do. In the later note (above) DaveB is speaking of Cinemar's MLIrrigation / Rain8Net driver if the rain switch was enabled in Cinemar's software too. ie: Does the Rain8Net driver differentiate between a Rain8Net hardware that is configured with a zone being a moisture detector, and not a solenoid.

I could not have answered it any better. DavidL is directly on target.
Thanks!
