Rain8 config - master valve not working

Postby Art Dustman » Sun Jul 26, 2009 12:48 pm

Anyone know what I have to do to get the master valve to turn on with all my zones? I have 3 modules 001,002,003 configured properly. I can using the MLirrigation plugin turn all the valves on and off (verified with meter). I have zone 24 set as my master valve.

When I turn on any zone, zone 24 will not turn on with it. I auto configured the modules and told it zone 24 is master and have verified it says master.

Help please...

I have 2 and will look at my setup as mine is working. Uncheck the "turn off in 2 miunets" option as that does not work. I know that the driver is being reworked, but what I do not know is if it ever was tested with a master valve at a location above zone 16. Mine resides at zone 16. Actually mine is a pump relay, but same difference. I will look at my setup later tonight and get back to you.
Thanks!

Weird: it shows it is on, and "appears to work correctly" according to the attached snips, but I don't think it is actually sending the command correctly.

The "master valve" button in the plugin utility does NOT turn on the master valve, but going into the valve listing and clicking "on" does work. Also status checks cause disconnects on the com port.

Can someone please check the code on the plugin, I'm in big trouble if the sprinklers don't run in the morning.

This one is fairly dead;

Try this as a test - Turn on Auto Log on the Log tab of setup. Go to the settings tab; Make sure that the total zones are set up correctly and that the master zone is set correctly. In the control box on the settings tab, hit the Master Valve button. Watch the zone and see if you see (or the program thinks) the zone is toggeling. Then do this and check the actual output of the Rain 8 with a meter. Let me know the results.

Dig into the log directory under the MLS master directory and look into the irrigation log file. After the manual toggle of the Master Valve button, you should see this;

Code: Select all

7/27/2009 9:50:58 PM   Master Valve: ON
7/27/2009 9:50:58 PM   Command = valid
7/27/2009 9:50:58 PM   Sx: 40 02 31
7/27/2009 9:50:58 PM   Rx:
7/27/2009 9:51:03 PM   Master Valve: OFF
7/27/2009 9:51:03 PM   Command = valid
7/27/2009 9:51:03 PM   Sx: 40 02 41
Thanks!

------------------------------ Save Log ------------------- via master valve toggle button
7/28/2009 7:21:02 AM Master Valve: ON
7/28/2009 7:21:02 AM Command = valid
7/28/2009 7:21:02 AM Sx: 40 03 32 <--- mv = zone 24 or controller 3, zone 8 (it should this say 40 03 38 !!)
7/28/2009 7:21:02 AM Rx: 40 03 32
7/28/2009 7:21:06 AM Master Valve: OFF
7/28/2009 7:21:06 AM Command = valid
7/28/2009 7:21:06 AM Sx: 40 03 42
7/28/2009 7:21:06 AM Rx: 40 03 42

Here is where I manually turn the zone on via the zone itself (click edit for individual zone)

7/28/2009 7:29:11 AM Rc: on~24
7/28/2009 7:29:11 AM Command = valid
7/28/2009 7:29:11 AM Master Valve: ON
7/28/2009 7:29:11 AM Command = valid
7/28/2009 7:29:11 AM Sx: 40 03 32 <------why is zone "18" here???
7/28/2009 7:29:11 AM Rx: 40 03 32
7/28/2009 7:29:11 AM Sx: 40 03 38 <--- correct!!
7/28/2009 7:29:12 AM Rx: 40 03 38
7/28/2009 7:29:13 AM Rc: off~24
7/28/2009 7:29:13 AM Command = valid
7/28/2009 7:29:13 AM Sx: 40 03 48 <---- correct!!
7/28/2009 7:29:13 AM Rx: 40 03 48

Ok... Obviously this was hardcoded to use zone 18 as a master valve (or less) but not more. I'll await confirmation/updated driver.

Version 1.0.504 of the Rain8Net driver fixed Art's issue. If you have more than 8 watering zones you need to upgrade to this version too.

Just as a follow up for everyone. If you are considering waiting on the RAIN8 setup because you heard there was connection problems or similar - do yourself a favor:

Buy the WGL recommended usb-serial adapter (even if you have a good serial port). There are some variations on the serial port logic voltages that these controllers are quite sensitive to. Even some motherboard serial ports are a bit flaky. I reluctantly bought the adapter, even though I have 4 edgeports and am NOT SORRY. I have had ZERO issues with the setup. It simply works like it should and my wife couldn't be happier with the touch screen irrigation!! It has been in place for 2 years now - and is highly recommended.

Thanks for the update. Just FYI - I've had my Rain8 plugged into a Quatech QSE-100D for the past 2 years with no connectivity problems.
