Bug? DND

Postby dfrazee » Thu Feb 23, 2006 11:21 am

I added DND functionality to my ML scenes last night and ran into issues with the DND functionality, seemingly in the CAV6.6 plugin.

I used the following commands and had issues with all, mainly in regards to inproper setting of variables:

MLServeCmd.MLCAV66|AdjZone~1~2~DND~Up
MLServeCmd.MLCAV66|AdjZone~1~2~DND~Down
MLServeCmd.MLCAV66|SetZone~1~2~DND~On
MLServeCmd.MLCAV66|SetZone~1~2~DND~Off
MLServeCmd.MLCAV66|SetDND~1~2~On
MLServeCmd.MLCAV66|SetDND~1~2~Off
MLServeCmd.MLCAV66|ToggleDND~1~2

If I set DND in zone 1 to On, the CAV zone 1 DND variable correctly switched to On. Unfortunately the CAV zones 2-6 DND variables also (incorrectly) switch to On. However, if I set up a zone as Master, despite the incorrect variable reporting the functionality is correct, i.e. the zone in which I set DND on has independent control and the others act as slaves to the master. It gets wierder... If I toggle the c1z1 DND to On, the c1z1 loudness variable also switches to On. Finally, if I initialize the CAV so Party & DND is off for all zones, then set z1 DND to on using the UNO-S2 connected to zone 1, the same thing happens in MLServer (DND variables for all Zones switch to On, loudness variable for zone 1 switches to On).

I didn't exhaustively test all possibilities, but I also noted that I was unable to functionally turn DND on in zone 5.

Please help, I can log and do further testing later today.

Ok, Looked at this briefly last night, I cleared the log for the CAV plugin and ran thru all the commands for changing DND status. Same behaivior as described in my prior post and no log entries. Please help.

Is anyone using the "Do Not Disturb" commands successfully?

I have just started to play with DND, thought it would be a quick way of getting paging in the rooms I wanted from homeseer, quickly flag all other rooms as DND, and turn DND off once the announcement has finished.

I am seeing strange interaction - where DND can show in the Uno display panel, but it doesn't work (announcements still come through), and it is no longer possible to turn DND off from the actual panel itself - it ignores the command when going into the menu. I also can get the inverse wher DND is not showing on the display - but paging does not work.

At the moment it looks like the CAV66 is the one with the problem - but wondering if it is fully at fault, or if it has received an invalid command from the plugin that is getting it into a broken state.

Anyone else tried using DND either successfully or otherwise?

Just started setting up DND through ML and am seeing the same things. Did anyone ever figure this one out?

Thanks for the help.

Was there ever a resolution to this issue?

I've just got a CAV6.6 and have started playing with it, and I have found exactly the same symptoms as described above.... Set DND On for one zone results in ALL zones DND setting On and vice-verca.

This was kind of one of the key features I went for the CAV for - I hope I've missed something simple.....

If it helps diagnose what this issue is, here are my logs for a simple case:
Is this a problem with the CAV itself executing the command for all zones, or the plugin instructing the CAV to do this ?

I started out with DND ON for all zones, and then issued a command to turn DND OFF for zone 4 only:

7/1/2009 9:13:16 PM Processing (1) MLServeCmd.MLCAV66|SetDND~1~4~Off

In the CAV plugin logs we see for the one command, DND being set OFF on all zones:

Its a bug - it looks like loudness and dnd are screwed up - I toggle loundess and dnd and loundness sometimes both toggle. I also have another bug posted in that multiple CAV's don't populate the zone names correctly (for Cav 2+)

But the main reason for my post is a thought on your original problem - I was thinking of using the front A/V input for a zone level paging system. I looked at the Russound RS232 manual and, assuming your zones are configured to accept A/V source as an option (a setting that you can toggle but I couldn't find an RS232 command to do this), you can set that source - so, source 7 is an option! On page 51 of the Controller Protocol manual, it shows how to set the A/V source input. Can the Cav plugin access the Front A/V input???

My thought is to have announcements for events be directed to the A/V input, simply turn on the controller, set the A/V zone and fire -- big benefit is that the announcement would be more clean because my page announcements need a pre-sound to get the page to start and it isn't always pretty (for example, I always say "Hello" before my message to wake the page up -- I usually hear "lo" or "o" then the message...

Wow - it works with the plugin - undocumented feature!

MLCAV66|SetZone~ZoneSource~1~5~7

Set my Master Bathroom (Zone 5) to front A/V (source 7) -- so, I now have a 7 source system! I am planning to have a Homeseer speaker client to be plugged into the front A/V...

Way too cool My weekend has got a project!

I had thought of doing that myself - please let me know how your testing goes

I have the same setup by the sound of things, with HS announcements hitting the Page Input. I had to prefix all my announcements with "Yo" - looks a bit strange seeing "Yo. Good morning" but the Yo was about right - Hello was too long as you mentioned.

After a lot more reading I'm not sure its a bug, but a poor design of how the DND works in the CAV itself - it sets DND for the SOURCE, not the zone. The problem I had was all my zones were set to the same source - set DND on one, and since they are all connected to that source, DND applied to all. I only noticed this when I set DND on one zone and saw the DND appear on the panel of another zone - its repeatable from the controllers as well as the plugin, so the plugin is in the clear 8)

I then tried setting zones to an unused source when I wanted them quiet - but it was nowhere near reliable enough - sometimes DND works, sometimes it doesn't.

I think your idea of using source 7 may well sort the problem whilst leaving the 6 standard inputs available (I was reluctant to use up one source just for HS announcements)

Best of luck
Geoff
