Can ML communicate with Russound via ELK-IP232?

Postby Nexus » Sun May 10, 2009 9:34 am

Can the ML Russound plugin communicate with a CAV6.6 via IP instead of being connected to the RS232 port? I’m hoping there is an ELK-IP232 interface option.

If you're running TS07's, you loose the RS232 port on the CAV6.6 to the ELK-IP232. I would think ML talking to the IP232 interface wouldn't be that difficult to adapt.

Wasn't aware such an interface existed. I'll have to track down the documentation and see what is involved.

Thanks Dave. I hate to give up control from my TS07's and would really like to integrate one of the new Cinemar touch screens.

Nexus,

I'm not familiar with this hardware either. Once installed, does the device show up as a comport on any computer where their software is installed? If so, I'm guessing it would work.

Hi Mario,

I believe so, although I haven’t tested it in this fashion. According to Elk’s website…

“It may be used to connect any standard serial communications device such as a PC, an audio/video distribution system, or an Elk-M1 Control, to an Ethernet network.”

http://www.elkproducts.com/products/elk-ip232.htm

Currently it directly connects to the CAV6.6’s RS232 port and Elk has the software built into Elk RM/RMS for the TS07. So the TS07 can control any of the Russound products via their touch screen.

I would call ELK directly. They should know where this would work or not.

Hi Mario

I realized its a old time issue but anyway I wanted to ask you if by any chance you validated with ELK. I figured out that apparently it can be configured as a Virtual Serial Port so eventually ML could communicate with any serial device via the ELK-IP232 using the corresponding Plug-in serial communication protocol.
