rscottmcmahon setup

Postby rscottmcmahon » Mon Jul 19, 2004 3:17 pm

I have been using the Cinemar products for quite awhile now and thought it was time to share some screenshots of my setup.

Currently, I have MLServer and a MainLobby client running on my HTPC. I have a second MainLobby client running on a ViewSonic AirPanel V110 which is hosted off another computer (not my HTPC). The AirPanel is docked in the kitchen of our Great room (kitchen, family room and breakfast nook) and is used primarily to control what is playing on either a 50" Samsung DLP or a Sony LCD front projector. Both the TV and the projector are in the family room, but since the room is not light controlled, we use the DLP for everyday viewing and the projector just at night to watch DVDs or HDTV.

I have found that it is most convenient to use the AirPanel in the kitchen to change channels or sources, select music, check the weather, etc. since we rarely sit down to watch things in the family room during the day. When we do sit down to watch a movie or HDTV show, then I undock the AirPanel and carry it over to the couch to use. The ability to carry the AirPanel around is why I got the 10" screen instead of the 15". I have actually designed my MainLobby screens for 1024x768, but let MainLobby scale them to fit the 800x600 of the AirPanel.

My sources are:

DirecTivo
Satellite HDTV receiver
VCR
HTPC
Portable DVD player (just there so my wife/kids can watch a DVD without having to use the HTPC directly)

The HTPC runs:
TheaterTek with ffdshow
MyHD HDTV capture card
FlyVideo video capture card with DScaler
Media Center (with MusicLobby frontend)
Girder with USB-UIRT to control receiver, tivo, etc.

I also have another computer running Homeseer which controls several X10 lights around the house.

I so not plan to show screenshots of MusicLobby, DVDLobby or WeatherLobby since I use these pretty much as is with a few extra buttons added.

This first screenshot is the screen that you see on the AirPanel
when the system is shut down. I like this MainLobby logo (skin1024x768_ml.jpg),
although it would be nice to get it updated to the latest version.

After pushing the Start button the TV and receiver is turned on
and a generic "Welcome to our HTPC" screen is displayed by
MainLobby the TV. The AirPanel switches to this screen.

This is my generic control screen. It is shown here with no source
device selected. When a source device is selected (ie Tivo) then
the middle section that is blue will be filled in with the control
buttons for that source.

The bottom row of buttons each brings up a menu (through the load
overlay scene) in which to make further selection. The TV, Movies
and Music each have several choices. The Photos, Internet and
Weather just give you the choice of displaying on the AirPanel or
the TV. If you display on the AirPanel the TV is left alone, allowing
you to check the weather while you still watch Tivo for example.
Displaying on the TV is mostly used when you want to show several
people the weather, pictures, etc. The Lights has no menu, but just
takes you right to the light display.

Above these buttons, the shutdown turns off everything but the HTPC.
The projector brings you to another page to lower the screen, turn on
the projector and lower the lights. The blue text changes based
upon which device is currently selected. The rest are just volume
controls.

The top line includes the date and time (selecting these takes you
to a calendar). The temperature and humidity provided by the
PM_weather script running on Homeseer (selecting these will take
load an overlay scene with more detailed information collected by
the PM_weather script). The Cisco stock price and change provided
by MLServer (selecting these will load an overlay with more stock
quotes).

In this screenshot, the Tivo has been selected as a source and is
displaying on the TV. The middle section on the AirPanel is filled
in with the controls for the Tivo. In addition, the TV button at
the lower left has been selected popping up the TV menu to select
another source.

For the MyHD, I use a category within DVDLobby to create a sort
of HDTV-Lobby. When you select this, a MLServer macro loads
dvdlobby_tv on the TV and arrows down to the " HDTV Recordings"
category (note there is a space at the beginning of the category
name so that it is listed near the top of the category list).
At the same time, an overlay is loaded on the AirPanel to control
the dvdlobby_tv running on the HTPC. I have loaded pictures and
descriptions for each show that I reguarly record. This makes
for a nice interface, although it there is nothing to indicate
if there is a new recording for a show, so you just have to
know what is out there. Hopefully TVLobby will replace this
system in the future.

Anyway, here is the AirPanel screen with the MyHD controls loaded
and the HDTV-Lobby overlay loaded on top.

This is my Lights scene. Nothing too special. The sliders are
a little small for the 800x600 screen, but can be adjusted with
either a fingernail or the stylus. This is not that big of a deal
since we mostly just turn things on and off.

rs, nice job!
I see you are using PM_Weather. did you modify the script so that the special charecters (like degree symbol) don't show?

If so, can you share your script changes? I had PM running on HS and ran into this prob with ML and flash puking on the degree charecter, so killed PM in HS. Was going to look into modifying the script, but haven't gotten to it yet. So, if you could share, that would be great!

Thanx

Yes, I ran into the same problem and had to modify the script. When I get
home tonight, I will post it for you.
