New Scenes

Postby albright_family » Fri Jan 14, 2011 7:53 pm

Well I am about 90% completed with my new scenes, and so I figured I would post screenshots for you all. The main thing I went for in this version of my scenes is uniform menu structure and changeable background image. Have a look-see and tell me what you think. I am particularly proud of my "wife-proof" way of putting a new DVD into the changer all from the client screen. My wife picked up the tablet and started this without any instruction (and my wife doesn't take to new easily, we have a small slot load DVD drive under the TV that is used for the identification of the Disc, once ID has been made it ejects the disc and powers up the correct changer for you.)

Nice Job - Looks neat and clean without too many choices on each scene.

Are you loading the background into one of the available four layers? How do you handle that with multiple screens?
Thanks!

Thanks Dave

Layer 01 - is 0019_background.mls, which only 1 object on it. An image with a reference to {{background_image}}. To change the background you simply change that variable.
Layer 02 - is 0019_menu.mls, which contains all 10 menu boxes being driven by variables {{clientname}}_menu001_text, {{clientname}}_menu001_action, {{clientname}}_menu001_show. This scene also contains the menu header information which is also updated in variables.
Layer 03 - is whatever scene needs to be loaded.
Layer 04 - is whenever a popup is required and is loaded into this layer.

The beauty of this is all I have to do is update one variable and systemwide in changes the background, although I am thinking I might make it client-specific later on. Will have to ask the wife about it.

Does that clear things up?

Yes - Nice method. Makes it easy to manage and dynamic.

I started with one screen years ago and now have five and an iPad. We essentially do not use light switches in the house except for the bathrooms and garage. With the iPad, we no longer use remotes for the equipment.
Thanks!
