MLSatRadio (3.99.16 3.99.17) NEW lineup issues?

Postby oaserani » Thu Nov 17, 2011 12:20 pm

Dave & Co. After the XM/Sirius merge issues, things were fine for quite a while. Sometime around 3.99.16/3.99.17 something broke with the lineup on my system. XM and PolkRT12. Channels 2-9 reflect what's actually playing. Then it's "confused" Some of the channel info from higher channels starts showing up in channels 10-20. Deleted database, did a clean install, and no luck. The Polk receiver shows the right info, as well as the "What's playing guide" on the internet. Any thoughts? Again, I think this happened in the last couple of updates of the plugin.
Thanks.

The channel lineups for the Internet players are out of skew. Before Sirius encrypted their PC player it was pretty easy to reverse engineer the player to get the various station URLs and unique identifiers. Since they've switched over to that horrible Flash based player everything on the PC is encrypted. The Android and iPad players and are not Flash based and not encrypted so I have to try to catch their web traffic in order to reverse engineer what they do. The difficulty lies in trying to capture the wireless traffic. I have not found out an easy way to do that yet. I'm working on it.

Thanks Dave. Appreciate it. I assume the problem applies to whether I'm using a "physical" receiver like the Polk (which I am) and a streaming account?

Yes because the master database file needs updating. If you have Access you can modify you own copy to make it play with the Polk.

OK -- what am I modifying? The Polk "works" in the sense that it changes channels and receives something from the internet (~ first 9 channels accurately).

In the XM table there is a column that maps to the equivalent Sirius channel. You'd need to make sure the cross-referenced Sirius channel is correct.

Dave -- checked all the cross-references. They are good. Still breaks down at channel 10, which is the same for both XM and Sirius -- it's grabbing the information from some country channel. Can't tell which one.

Dave -- I went to the old plugin XMLOBBY and at least the content of the channels is coming up right. If I edit the lineup in the MDB for that plugin, at least it works. Where is the old plugin getting the info from? At least the old one is somewhat close to what's playing. The new one MLSAT is not even close.

Thanks.

I have finally tracked down the xml feed that the mobile devices use for XM and Sirius channel information. I am going to update the M:SatRadio master database today to reflect the info in the xml feed. This should put the plugin back in sync.

Version 3.99.28 of the MLSatRadio plugin adds a "Synchronize Database" option to the plugin's menu. When you select this option it will now go out to SiriusXM and pull down the current channel list xml file. This will then dynamically update your database. This should get the channels back into alignment.

Maybe I spoke too fast. As of this AM, the lineup is still accurate, but the "Now Playing" info is gone/blank. Restarted MLServer and clients but still the same.

Well -- I take that back....after about an hour, and not doing anything, the content is back...maybe the elves on the night shift at SiriusXM fell asleep and forgot to update the XML feed. either that or I have a massive delay on my server.

A note about the now playing data. The plugin queries XM every 5 seconds to update the now playing listings. Right now we use the legacy JSON feed that the original XMPCR app used for its listings. I have seen very long delays at times between XM updates on the feed. I have also tried to use the XML feed that the mobile phones use but I have see even larger delays in updates on that feed. So when you do not see the now playing change for a while it is most likely XM not updating the master. I'm still searching for the best feed.
