Somfy shades

Postby syous » Tue Dec 19, 2006 12:43 pm

I asked this question on another section but did not get any replies. I am hoping a professional installer could help.

Has anyone used gc100-12 to connect/control somfy, or any other, motorized shades?

If not, what have you used for this type of control?

I am looking for hard wire instead of IR.

Thanks
syous

I haven't seen that topic posted, but there shouldn't be any signficant problem doing that that I can forsee. Somfy has an RS232 protocol, you might be able to use the MLGenericSerial plugin with it. If that won't work, and you need to use the GC100, then the MLGenericDevice plugin (in beta) very very likely would work. If you want to explore this option, let me know and I will open you up to the beta so you can try it.

I would expect a somfy blind would be straightforward to build in MLGD, and was the kind of reason that MLGD is being developed (simple device with no custom plugin). MLGD today only supports ASCII and not HEX BTW. Hex will be added soon.

Use of relays

Postby syous » Tue Dec 19, 2006 1:57 pm

I was wondering if we could use the relays instead of the serial. I am not sure if serial is an option. I will check.

What would you use the relays for?

thanks

Somfy has an IGC module that supports RS232.

There also is an IR switch that a GC emitter (or USBIR6) could send to.

There are also 12volt versions that a relay could trigger (GC or other).

Many control options.

good to know

IR seems easy enough.

Serial also should be straight forward.

the 12v relays are what I am leaning toward for now. From what I see, there should be no reason I can not use the gc unit for this, is there?

I am just wondering if anyone on this forum has done it and if there is anything I need to look out for or take into consideration?

thanks again
