Insteon or ZWave??

Postby kirkfrey » Wed Aug 09, 2006 12:56 pm

I am at a cross roads. I have been using z-Wave for a while and recently added a few Insteon devices to the mix. So far, with VERY limited testing, the Insteon devices work fine. I especially like the fact that Insteon devices will report local activation immediately and not wait for a polling interval.

I have not had reliability problems with my zWave, just that the switches are expensive and the above “issue”. I have been reading a lot over in the HS forums and it seems that people are still not overly pleased with Insteon (although most seem to think it will get better at some point). The other thing that I keep in the back of my head is Cisco’s backing of zWave early this year which is interesting.

Thoughts?

For me personally at this point - I'm leaning towards Insteon for a few reasons:
1) Switches look and feel better
2) More options as far as Keypads
3) 2way instead of Polling
4) Linking is not limited to a short 5' distance

Insteon has had its share of problems, but it is getting better.
