Cinemar introduces TriviaLobby Beta

Postby Guest » Fri Oct 17, 2003 12:36 am

Cinemar is pleased to announce the beta release of TriviaLobby, powered by interacTrivia. interacTrivia is a "bar-style" interactive, real-time trivia competition where players compete head-to-head with other users around the world. TriviaLobby is an additional component that is being developed for use in MainLobby; however, during the beta phase the client will be an external program until it can be fully integrated into MainLobby.

You can download the client here:

http://www.cinemaronline.com/interactrivia_pc.zip

In addition to being able to test your knowledge against the best and brightest in the world, interacTrivia allows you to chat in real-time with your competition and so much more. Registered subscribers can also chat privately with other users during gameplay.

We are looking for individuals to help us test this new system and build a database of questions and facts for launch. Early registrants will receive a 90-day free subscription to interacTrivia and will receive an additional day of subscription for every question submitted by them and approved for game use by interacTrivia. We are hoping to amass a database of 3000+ questions in 60 days for our launch and WE NEED YOUR HELP! The user who submits the most approved questions during the 60-day period will receive a free lifetime subscription to interacTrivia for them and 4 friends.

We are in the process of developing PocketPC and view-only (for TV display/no interaction) clients; however, the only client available at this time is a standard PC client.

How does it work?

1) Download and unzip interactrivia.exe to your hard drive.
2) Run interactrivia.exe
3) Complete the 'NEW USER' registration and verification process.
4) Join a game channel and begin playing.
5) Help us out by submitting some questions for inclusion in our database.

Some screenshots for your enticement...

We have many plans for the future of this new product, including:

Ability to send/receive image files (registered subscribers)
"Lobby-ish" interface
PocketPC/TV versions
Macintosh version
Contests/prizes
Themed games/channels hosted by different "enthusiast" groups/companies

Please report all bug reports/feature requests to this forum.

Have you ever played "You Don't Know Jack"?

Postby mzemina » Fri Oct 17, 2003 4:33 pm

It was produced by Berkley Systems (makers of After Dark screen saver) developed by Jellyvision http://www.jellyvision.com. More info can be found here:
http://www.mrbillsadventureland.com/reviews/x-y-z/ydkjackR/ydkjorigR.htm

I played it for quite some time and like the slant it had on the game play - sound effects (also nice graphics) wisecracking game "host" that pokes and prodded you to answer the questions. It would be great if something like this came back to light again.

PS - I found this pdf (attached) file on their (jellyvision) website and want to share.

Mike,

I looked at You Don't Know Jack a while ago, and jellyvision.com when doing some research for this project...here's where we'll shine:

Instead of 3 players, think 300 or 3000 at the same time - or if you're looking for something a little more quaint get in a private game of just you and your friends. You think the host is mean - how about 9 of your buddies talking smack about your intellectual acumen. :)

We're talking truly interactive, real-time trivia competition here. Same questions at the same time - anywhere in the world. Add to that - some spectacular graphics (very soon), themed hosts/channels for you to choose from, etc.

Dan, This sounds way cool! May want to have the ability to allow (or better not) foul language. Kinda like a rating system in case familys want to play but sometimes "just the guys" want to roll-around and get dirty. If you know what I mean.

Brings up a good point - black and white listing of words? Or the ability for other players to out you out of the game?

Time willing I'm hoping to post another update by tomorrow with a few more enhancements including the ability to block/allow private messages, but the biggest being the ability to select either to login and play on your PC or view on a 4:3 TV set (16:9 to come).

Image

Here's what it looks like on a TV, so you can sit around with your 5 buddies and 5 airpanels and 5 dozen beers.

Update has been posted that supports the dual-interface selector. If you're wanting to view the game board on a television, from the "chooser" press 2 for TV, then select a channel. Channels are listed 3 to a page (press 1, 2, or 3 to pick a channel - 4 = previous page, 6 = next page).

That's it. There is no interaction with the TV set, just a way to show what's going on if you've got multiple people playing or others want to "play" without playing.

Get the update at

first impressions

Postby collegeboyslive » Fri Nov 07, 2003 9:46 pm

excellent, and fun,

I would lovbe to see it be able to be used on a touchscreen and pulled up AND CLOSED ! from mainlobby, that way it will be a realy great idea to add to a touchscreen remote control.

just one other thing, the ability to save or auto log in will be great, again , looking at using it with a touchscreen with no pen just the ability to hit a few keys and play.

collegeboyz,

We're hoping once things get stabilized to make it "MainLobby" compatible. For now, keeping it seperate during development is just easier. There, of course, will also be a standalone version and PPC version in time.

Autologin will be added in a future release. It was actually in a previous release, but taken out. Don't ask why. :)

I've made some significant updates to the UI if anyone wants to try the latest. It's a little more fun and "interactive" now.

Just open up the version you're currently running and it should tell you of the update and allow you to download it.

I shelved it because you and I were the only ones who seemed to care about it. :) I will be revisiting again once some of the bigger fish are fried.
