Forum Maintenance

Postby CinemarDave » Sat Jul 18, 2009 9:10 pm

The Cinemar Forum will be offline for a period of time starting late Saturday July 18th and extending into Sunday July 19th. During this time the forum will be moved to it's new home.

Starting Sunday the new forum address will be http://forum.cinemaronline.com and it will be residing on an new dedicated server with a very fast Internet connection. The forum software will also be upgraded to the latest version of the phpbb software. You should not lose any user settings during this conversion but you will have to create new cookies for automatically logging in since the URL is changing.

The Forum has been moved to its new home. We are using the latest version of the forum software and it sports a new UI that will take a few minutes to get used to. Let us know if you see any issues.

Hey Dave,

Nice job. Two things missing that I like but didn't see in the user setup. For View New Posts, the Category field is missing. Was a great way to identify topics of interest quickly. Also, doesn't seem to show the number of pages in the topic's post. That was an easy way to quickly get to the latest post.

Rick

Edit: Never mind about the page numbers. I did find one post with page numbers listed.

DaveB,

If you go into User Control Panel --> Board Preferences--> My Board Style, and select "SubSilver2" it puts things into a closer design to the previous board with Poster info on the left instead of right. At least that worked for me.

Having a few issues. Several times now I've had to refresh/reload a page as it seems to have timed out. Not sure if you guys are getting extra slammed right now, but at least for me, the new server seems worse :(

I've been closely watching the server and it is performing very well. The cookie timeouts are set to infinity. I have not seen a single issue yet.

Looks good so far. Will the RSS feed be returning?

Thanks, Dean

This version does not have a patch for the RSS feed. I'm looking to see if I can change the old one to support this version. So the answer is yes, but I'm not sure how long it is going to take.

How about updating the online forum link on the main sites home page, still pointing to the old forum (which has an unhelpful message saying it is offline).

It is correct - I just tested it. You must be looking at a oage in you cache. Clear your explorer cache and refresh the page and see if it is working then.

There are two links to the forum on the homepage and the one on the left navigation pane is the one with the bad link. It could be me but I cleared my cache and refreshed the page.

You are correct. That link is in an embedded SWF file and I missed it. We'll correct it.
