MLServer Wish List

Postby DaveB » Tue Jan 26, 2010 8:32 pm

Dave and Mario;
This list could get long, but I have a small one that keeps coming up thaa would be a great module to add.

With all the agents that need to start when MLS starts, I use MLStartup to accomplish this. The problem is that I do not always remember to manually exit all those agents when I need to update something inside MLS. The request is to either expand MLStartup to also perform functions at MLS shutdown, or create a new MLShutdown module to do the same.
Thanks!

Can I add a couple of convenience "oldies but goodies"? Here's my top 10 in no particular order.

1. Ability to enable/disable Server Rules without deleting them.
2. Ability to use wildcards when deleting variables.
3. Ability to have MLServer remember "Views" on startup. I thought I found this in mlserver.ini but it doesn't seem to stick.
4. In Command Maps and Send Commands, change the Client Name box to a drop down box of available clients.
5. Add a "Delete Confirmation" for Command Maps. Leaving the check box checked after running a command map can be disasterous if your next step is to delete a different command map and you don't hit "uncheck all" first.
6. Ability to "comment out" lines in command maps/macros.
7. Ability to add a "debug stop" aka msgbox while building complex macros in Command Maps.
8. Move the execution of scripts in MLScripts outside of MLServer.
9. Allow for the execution of more MLCommands like setProperty from MLS.
10. In the server variables list, have some designator to show whether it was created as "Fast" or not.

EDIT: Adding another request. Add a paremeter to MLMath that would allow for the formating of the result. "MLMath|Divide~variable3~{{variable1}}~{{variable2}}~#.##" I would assume there is no need for ~number~ when using MLMath.

It has been there for a long time...

DelVariable|myVar*
MLComDevice: Control serial/TCP device (ASCII/hex) - MLSchedule: Alternative to MLScheduler
MLBeyondTV and MLSageTV: PVR support - TChanger: Sony BDP-CX7000ES 400 disc Bluray changer
TRadio: Sirius/HD/XM radio - TChart: Chart from variable Wiki

Sorry, should have been clearer. My previous request to Dave was for wildcards within variables, not just at the end of variables. I know that as of November it wasn't included.

ricks wrote:Hi Dave,

Did this update happen to include the wildcards for the DelVariable function? I would just download and try it but I am trying to resolve problems with MLHAI and don't want to add any more changes if I can avoid it.

Thanks,
Rick

All of these will be in the next release. Keep the requests coming.

Just to elaborate on #8 of my top ten. I crunch a lot of numbers that are generated by MLS and HAI. Having MLS macros handle this is killing MLS efficiency - using a touchscreen when MLS is crunching results in lengthy pauses. Obviously, MLS is not meant for this. The next step was to push this number crunching to MLScripts. When I accidentially left a msgbox in a script I noticed that MLS paused as well which means MLS is still affected by the script cycles. My third option has been to pass data to MLDB and then have C++ programs crunch the numbers and send them back to MLDB where MLS brings them back into server vaiables. Not very efficient but at least it doesn't slow down MLS as much. Short of having the SDK, MLScripts cycles residing outside of MLS seems to be the most efficient.

Thanks,

Edited my list above to include formating within MLMath.
