BUG: MuL J River Plugin v3.0.31 hangs MediaCenter

Postby jeffdoo » Wed Feb 06, 2008 3:17 pm

(moved from album art thread)

I now have a new problem I'm slowly working to resolve with the v3.0.31 plugin, it's hanging MediaCenter v12.0.428! Now, I'm still working to prove this is the case but after installing v3.0.31 it hung yesterday. So I figured the whole MC12 environment must be screwed up. I backed up my MC12 library, uninstalled MC12, rebooted, installed MC12, restored my library, reinstalled the v3.0.31 plugin, and configured (almost) all of my settings again. It ran until some point during the night and MC12 hung again, it plays the same one second of the songs on both zones (I have two zones configured) over and over. I have to kill the MC12 process (task manager), restart MC12 which immediately hangs upon restart, but Vista picks this up and offers to kill MC12 (which I select), restart MC12 again which now detects it crashed, select to disable all 3rd party plugins and we're in business again (without v3.0.31 plugin enabled).

One immediate observation... the cover art being displayed at the time of the crash for Zone 1 was an album titled "100% Hits" (notice the '%' sign). But this is just a guess at the moment....

I'm currently running MC12 without the plugin to see if MC12 hangs on it's own. But, I honestly never had a hang until yesterday after getting the v3.0.31 plugin working w/automation rules.

Thanks.

Update to the above....

After four hours without MC12 hanging I decided to enable the plugin and see what was playing during the next hang (benefits of working from home). Here are the results:

- No reboot since the MC12 hang discovery this morning
- Re-enable v3.0.31 plugin in MC12, instant hang once the plugin is displayed on the list to the left
- Use task manager to terminate MC12
- Restart MC12 (plugin enabled), instant hang
- Use task manager to terminate MC12
- Shutdown MLServer (just in case, who knows)
- Restart MC12 (plugin enabled), instance hang
- Use task manager to terminate MC12
- Restart MC12 and agree to disabled 3rd party plugins
- MC12 is running again....
- Reboot...
- MC12 is running (plugin is disabled)
- Re-enable v3.0.31 plugin in MC12, instant hang on the plugin is displayed on the list to the left.
- Vista detects the hang and terminates MC12
- Restart MC12 (plugin enabled)
- Navigate to "Services & Plug-ins" and select MusicLobby Server, instant hang.
- Delete all plugin created jpgs (150*, 130*, "jpg")
- Restart MC12 (plugin enabled)
- Navigate to "Services & Plug-ins" and select MusicLobby Server, instant hang.
- Delete the error.log file from the plugin directory
- Restart MC12 (plugin enabled)
- Navigate to "Services & Plug-ins" and select MusicLobby Server, instant hang.
- Restart MC12 (disable 3rd party plugins)
- Go to Plug-in Manager and uninstall "MusicLobby Server"
- Bounce around MC12 and everything works fine
- Check the plugin directory, nothing has been deleted. I still see MusicLobbyServer.ocx (10/5/07 @ 380,928). Are there any other files?
- Shutdown MC12
- Install older v3.0.23 plugin, MusicLobbyServer.ocx (6/1/07 @ 393,216).
- I also observe a second set of unins???.exe & .dat files now in the plugin directory.
- Restart MC12
- Enable the "old" v3.0.23 plugin
- Double check my setting for the plugin
- Start playing music, everything is good....

I'm really at a loss here.... if there is something you'd like me to try and/or test please let me know, I'm using the v3.0.23 right now. Once the hang occurs there is nothing I can do to prevent it, I've deleted the only files I think could play a role and there was no change.

Thanks

- Jeff

Thanks for posting this. I am looking at the routines reported in the error.log file.

Sorry, I should have pointed out those errors probably don't mean much of anything. That time stamp was probably the point at which MediaServer and the plugin were started for the first time. If I followed the *jpg file creation timestamps the solution hung around 3:49am and I would assume the startup time was 8:24pm. Therefore, in this instance it ran ~7 hours before it hung but once it hangs it never recovers, not across program terminations or even reboots.

Also, no hangs at the moment since going back to the v3.0.23 plugin.

I am having similar problems - how did you get a hold of the earlier version? I would like to downgrade so everything works again. Side note - I am normally very impressed with updates - not this one

There is a new MusicLobbyServer.ocx v 3.0.63 that should resolve historic coverart issues. That goes with the latest 3.1.3.0 MLMediaCenter plugin.

I would use this combo instead of downgrading.

Available via MLInstaller.

Do you mean the one I see in the beta download page? I cannot download this for some reason. Help please!

No, via MLInstaller
http://www.cinemaronlineforums.com/wiki ... _Installer

in Section 3_ MainLobby3 optional applications (once MLInstaller is running)

Thanks smoothtalk - found it, installed it and I have some happy news to report. My currently playing cover art is caching correctly now, but I still get hanging when I try to view the album thumbnails in the mul swf object. Any other ideas for me to try - We are almost there! Thanks again for the quick reply

Might want to search the hard drive to see if there are multiple musiclobbyserver.ocx files installed due to path changes with J river.

Just a guess. If you find one outside of the default directory, unregister it with Windows and then delete it.

I am not seeing any of these issues across many installations.

K - I did a search and found these(see attached). Could you tell me if any of these look culprit. If so, which one and how do I unregister it with windows? Thanks again smoothtlk!
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

To un-register a Plug-In with Windows:

1. Click on your Start menu in the lower corner of Windows and select the Run option. 2. On the Run line type the following: regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\MLServer\plugins\musiclobbyserver.ocx" /u

I would uninstall the MusicLobbyServer plugin via Windows Add / Remove programs.

then, I would tailer the above Windows registry uninstaller for all of the instances still noted on search.

Delete all files in Recycle bin.

Then, I would reinstall the latest MusicLobbyServer using MLInstaller.

The one on MLServer directory is the suspect one. Not sure how it got in there. Now, the fact it exists in that directory isn't the problem. If it is registered with Windows, then it is a problem. One can't tell if it is registered or not, but it doesn't belong there anyway.

the Third one is the correct one and I believe it's in the correct directory for Media Center 12.

You should turn on event logging to a file in the MusicLobby plugin inside JRiver. Then go to a client and issue the commands that make it hang. After you do that go back to JRiver. Turn off logging and then look for two files in your JRiver plugins folder called MuLServerLog.txt and error.log. Email both of those log files to me so I can review.

Ok I got event logging on. Open up mainlobby on a client and try to switch to thumbnail mode and then jriver freezes. I then have to ctrl-alt-del and end jrivers process, copied the 2 files before restarting jriver, then start jriver back up, turn off logging, find the 2 files again and emailed all 4 (2 pre & 2 post restart) them to you(also attached to this post). Thanks for helping me figure this one out. Talk to ya soon!
