1st,gen iPad is slow... It also is really old. Not much of a comparison when comparing an old man to a teenager during a marathon race...

I did pick up a Microsoft Surface Pro 128gb tablet at Best Buy with the back to school $100 off.

I know Microsoft is about to ship Windows 8.1, but I don't care. It is just going to run Mainlobby.

This Surface is way nicer then the Samsung Series 7 Slate. Lighter, cleaner, less clunky and the touch screen is more precise.
The Samsung finger touch would take two or three presses sometimes. The Slate is spot on.

Now it makes me want to be able to "swipe" movies to the screen. :)

My wife's iPad is Gen 2. The native Mainlobby client is still better IMHO. But the cost of these non RT Windows 8 slates is high.
Not as high though as those in-wall touch screens and you can set it on the coffee table.

By the way there is an issue with the Surface.

The resolution is 1920x1080.
Out of the box, the display is set to scale 150% for text and other items, to make them readable on this 10 inch screen.

At 150% Mainlobby sees the screen size to be 1280x720.

But that means your Mainlobby screens don't fit right. Well mine were set for my Slate, which was 1366x768.

So the scaling needs to be 142% to be close (1355x762)
143% is 1345x757 which for me pushes elements off to the right.

I thought about making 1920x1080 Mainlobby scenes and basically scaling up images its to 200%.
But then if you do use the Surface for a web browser or something it will be real small text, etc.

Oh, also, programs such as VNC remote desktop don't like this scaling at all.

I'm considering other options for the Mainlobby screen sizes.

Wanted to rekindle this. I am looking at redoing all my clients. I can get iPad 4's for a ~$200 and can use them but can also get older Surface's for just a bit more. Trying to find the simplest way forward.

Just trying to figure it out...

An iPad mounted on a wall makes a great solution. Check out the iPort LaunchPort for a really neat way to mount and charge an iPad.
