Video Distribution over Cat5

Postby TheCodeMan » Tue Aug 07, 2007 1:22 pm

I have one HD DVR from DirectTV that I would like to distribute to five other TVs. I have read through most of this forum as well as several others. There doesn't seem to be a cheap alternative to doing this. Since we are talking HD as the source, RG6 will not run the signal, right? Now I'm looking at component cables. It's not feasible to run component cables to each TV from the source, so now I need baluns. At $100 a pop, two for each TV, that's $1000. Are there any other cheaper solutions to this problem?

I know some of you may consider this to be the cheap solution, but my wallet cringes at the thought.

three RG6 can run component. Then, you still need to send audio.

Tivo (and other sources) to a component matrix switcher, and then out to the TVs sounds like what you need. Yes, it will cost more than what you are cringing about :(
