WebLobby redesign suggestion

Postby mnkynifefite » Wed May 13, 2009 6:45 pm

Due to the many shortcomings of the embedded ActiveX control of IE in ML, has there been any talk of redeveloping WebLobby to use something other than IE?

The reason I ask is that I know that NetFront Browser lends itself quite well to embedded environments, and their SDK opens up just about everything one would ever need. That could lead to some very exciting things, especially in terms of webapps and "real" features liked tabbed browsing, etc) ...with full two-way functionality with ML. Imagine a world with no WebLobby limitations :D

Thoughts?

Do you know if there are costs associated with this browser and /or licensing fees?

You can download the SDK from here:

It's a fully working except it does not include the PDA emulator, which in this case is no biggie. Might be worth trying it out to see if it's a viable option (which I believe it is). As for cost I believe there is a tiered licensing schema. A buddy of mine, who is using the SDK for mobile browser development, said it is very affordable. I suspect you would need to speak with them directly to get a real quote.
