WebLobby + www.511.org causes MainLobby to crash

Postby timespinner » Sun Mar 12, 2006 2:26 am

I'm seeing an issue with MainLobby crashing randomly when I'm browsing the web using WebLobby It will consistenly crash when I have the start page in weblobby.ini set to http://www.511.org for the SF bay area and I click on the traffic map.

System Specs:
Windows XP
2GB RAM
2.13Ghz Processor
MainLobby 2.86b

The error is as follows:
FLash N' Pack crash where the message asks if the user should send the error report to Microsoft. MainLobby enters a 100% CPU loop, does't respond, and has to be killed via the Task Manager.

I can load the same page just find via Internet Explorer. Any help is really appreciated.

Some additional information: I was using IE 7. Using IE7 in conjunction with MainLobby seemed to cause the crash. I rolled back to IE6 which fixed the crashing issue, but now the map just appears empty instead of showing content.

P.S. Is this not the correct way to get support from Cinemar?

timespinner, that one would have been real tough to have helped with as only you knew you were running a beta IE7. Now that you have figured it out, those that Search will all know too not to upgrade to IE7 just yet. Now that you have identified an issue, we might be able to figure something out as IE7 gets a bit closer.

Thanx for posting your findings. It will help.

Well, the problem isn't fixed yet... there is still a problem with the MainLobby/IE integration because the map content is properly displayed in both IE6 and IE7 when MainLobby is not in the picture.

Will it be possible to get support for this issue? It is pretty simple to reproduce the problem:

1. With any version of IE installed, simply set the weblobby.ini to point to www.511.org
2. Use the weblobby.swf file as a background in any MLS file
3. Open the MLS file and choose launch
4. Click on the map that appears on the screen
5. The map on the resulting page will not appear

This works just fine when using IE directly... Please let me know if I need to provide more details. This is a big issue as we bought WebLobby mainly to view the traffic web sites.

Update: This is still a consistent problem in ML3/MLS3.

I confirmed it with W2K and IE6. Crash. Poof. No more ML.

History note: the WebLobby element has been attributed by Mario as a "ActiveX component that Cinemar has little control of" or something like that... not that that's what you want to hear. :?

Well, at least someone else can reproduce it.
