Please Fix DVDLobby Overlay Limitations

Postby jrfuda » Mon Jul 31, 2006 8:38 am

I'm in the process of builing my new ML3 scenes. Everything seems to be working well with the exeption of DVDLobby. It is still unable to be used as a BGFX in an overlay, and - although it can be used in a jpgloader in an overlay, some of its funtions go away (no search, sort, genre, etc, only the default view).

I have a slower client that really needs to use DVDL in an overlay. Right now I'm using it in the limited jpgloader mode.

Is DVDL next in the shoot for an update to make it fully ML3 compliant and to address some its lingering limitations.

I know there are some workarounds (which merelt conceal DVDL while other overalys are open). I've tried them and am not pleased with the results. So here are my requests:

1. DVDL be visible as a BGFX in an overlay
2. DVDL be completely functional when used at a button/jpgloader in a base or overlay scene.

I consider DVDL to be "the" killer app in the ML suite, and would really appreciate its few limitations being addressed.

John, DVDLobby is going thru a fairly major upgrade right now. But it is concentrating more on the back end and not the flash side. After that, then the flash side will be next up.

Smooth,

Do you know if multi-disc set handling will make it into the next upgrade?

I use DVD Lobby as a JPG loader in an overlay. I use buttons in the main scene to control it (including search, sort, genre, etc, not only the default view) via MLServeCmd.MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~DVDLobby... commands. It's worked fine for a LONG time. I'm on 3.02b.

Thanks gregory. I'm using straight ML commands from the buttons and they're not working. I'll try the MLServeCmd approach and see if it works any better.

OK, I'm still not having success.

I can get the DVDL commands to work if I use the boxes in the button edit screen for example:
MLCmd: DVDLobby
var: DLgenreMode
But this only works with DVDL loaded as a jpgloader as a base scene. If I load it as an overlay, it does not work. This does not matter if dvdlobby3.swf is marked as click or lock (or any combo) in the edit button dialog, or where it is in z-order.

For some reason, I cannot get the commands to work at all if sent a parts of MLServeCmds.

Just reconfirmed: I'm running ML 3.00.14 with DVDLobby v3.02b. I'm running dvdlobby3.swf as a JPG loader in an overlay and using the MLServer commands in my own buttons - NOT the native ML button commands.

I'm running them as command maps / macros... dunno if that matters. As a macro, they actually look like: MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLfirstLetterMode"

Note the typo from my last.

Thanks gregory.

I'm using the same versions and running them from a command map as well. I'll double check my command map and make sure I have al lthe syntax correct. I know the button to command map path is working, because I see the mlserver command passed in MLServer's event log window when I push a command mapped button.

Perhaps my problem is due to one of the linrary 0019 graphics.... the base scene load my DVDL overlay onto is a derivation of the ML3 linbrary 0019 sample scenes - it has the same "look" but a different functionality, as I am running it non-scaled at 800x600 (with required a major overhaul) and I am using the menu buttons as the base scene, with content overlays, rather than content scenes with button overlays, as is done in the sampl 0019 scenes.. much as you do with your low-proccessor scenes you use on your lower-end tablets.

Let me try some more expirementation....

gregory, that works. I must've had the sytax wrong (did it change a bit in the change to MLServer3?)

Here are the commands I can now use successfully:

MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLthumbnailPageUp
MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLthumbnailPageDown
MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLoverviewPageUp
MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLoverviewPageDown
MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLnextMovie
MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLprevMovie
MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLplayMovie
MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLplayTrailer
MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLfirstLetterMode
MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLoverviewMode
MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLthumbnailMode
MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLgenreMode
MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLsetupMode
MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLautoplay
MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLsearchMode
MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLsortMode
MLServeCmd.Macro|MLCmd|MLCommand~{{clientname}}~MLDVDLobby|DLtransportControls

John,

Does it work normally though without going through MLServer while in overlay mode?

Not sure if you were just sending the wrong command or if there is a bug.

Mario,

I must've been using old syntax - the DVDL documentation says to use:

DVDLobby|DLthumbnailPageUp

not

MLDVDLobby|DLthumbnailPageUp

What's funny is "DVDLobby|DLthumbnailPageUp" worked fine, as long as it was not an overlay, but "MLDVDLobby|DLthumbnailPageUp" works regardless.

John, for MusicLobby3 the syntax changes, and I have already added it to the documentation :)

John,

Thanks for pointing out the error in the documentation. It is now up-to-date and posted on our website as well as included with the lastet DVDLobby installer.
