Reopen iPad/iTouch backlight on/off question

Postby simonmason » Sun May 29, 2016 8:47 am

I have been remotely controlling my in-wall iTouch's by jailbreaking them and going through a convoluted set of steps to turn the backlight on and off. I have the iTouch's in locations (like the bedroom) where the backlight can be distracting when the house is asleep. I have not found a way to do this without jailbreak to date. I am the process of upgrading some of these devices to iPad Mini's and thought I would reopen the discussion to see if anyone has come up with anything else to do this? Thanks.

Not sure if it is the greatest solution, but what I did for one of my Android tablets was create an overlay with a button that completely covers the screen. I then have MLServer load this overlay every ten minutes based on a timer I created. Then have the button hide the overlay when pressed.

This approach is a good one but still leaves the backlight on. In a dark room a black screen can still put off a lot of light. It appears that jailbreaking is the only way to do this.

When we go to the native app for Android and iOS then we will be able to control the screen brightness. Not something that is exposed in Javascript. Need a native app for that functionality. And yes I am working on native apps.

I'm looking forward to beta testing it.

PS. If at all possible please have the iPhone app work under older devices. I use iTouch's in wall - they work great - and they are stuck at IOS 6.1.6 as Apple has moved them to the unsupported list.

A native Android app is currently working. I am in the process of building a hackintosh PC so I can then compile iOS apps.

Need a tester for the Android app?
