IOS9 resolve some of the IOS issues?

Postby Krumpy » Tue Sep 08, 2015 8:24 pm

Anyone do any testing to see if IOS9 resolves some of the issues we have been experiencing with IOS 8?

With a little bit of luck we may get iOS9 after tomorrow's iPhone 6s event. I'm not holding my breath that they will fix anything.

Based on normal years, it will be released today or next Wednesday ahead of the IPhone launch next Friday..

I am hoping as well as this IS is supposed to clean up some issues with speed improvements.

The IOS9 golden master has been uploaded and is accessible if you are a registered developer.

Otherwise we have to wait until next Wednesday...

Upgraded my devices to iOS 9 and now things are worse than ever.

As far as I can tell so far none of the previous bugs have been addressed and now they have broken even more. The biggest new issue is that the title bar on the app was previously black and translucent. Now they have forced it to be permanently visible with a white background and then it pushes all the content down 20 pixels. So now you are stuck with an ugly white status bar at the top of the page and you will have to rework all your scenes to compensate for the 20 pixels it moves everything down the page. ](*,)

If you upgrade to iOS 9 and want to get your scenes back to fit on the page then there is a quick edit you can make to the styles.css file to compensate for the 20 pixel down-shift.

Open styles.css and look for

Code: Select all

body {
   -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0,0,0,0);-webkit-text-size-adjust:none;-webkit-touch-callout:none;-webkit-font-smoothing:antialiased;
   background-color: #000000;
   background-image: url('../images/violet.png');
    color:#FFFFFF;
}

and add in a new line so it looks like this

Code: Select all

body {
   position:absolute;top:-20px;
   -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0,0,0,0);-webkit-text-size-adjust:none;-webkit-touch-callout:none;-webkit-font-smoothing:antialiased;
   background-color: #000000;
   background-image: url('../images/violet.png');
    color:#FFFFFF;
}

don't worry about the background-image as yours may be different.

Maybe I shouldn't have said anything. Maybe it would have been all ok. Rats.

Well on the positive side it does appear that they did fix the issue where they did not restart the JavaScript timers when a device comes out of sleep. My devices have not failed to respond when waking up and that is good.

I guess that is a start.

Would you mind posting what other items are not quite working? I am seeking this info to vet if I want to upgrade my devices and figure that others are struggling with the same decision..

Thx.

The wake up from sleep was the biggest show stopper. That sure seems to be resolved.
The other items are the inability to play videos in an html <video> tag and now the white header bar. So it is really not that bad.

Siri doesn't have an open api and we do not have access to the microphone but there are ways around these limitations using a native app wrapper.

No reason to hold back. I hope they fix the white header issue soon.

Anything change with IOS 9.1? Still got the white banner on top?

Nothing has changed. White banner is on top. The only good news is that wake from sleep never fails.
