Aprilaire Device Driver

Postby CinemarDave » Sat Sep 22, 2012 7:02 pm

We just released a native V4 device driver for the Aprilaire thermostats. This driver is a member of the Climate family. It is a direct port of the V3 plugin with the command set modified to fit the new family structure. If you've got some of these give the new driver a test and let us know how it works.

Can you turn on logging to a file in the Aprilaire driver and restart MLServer. Then issue some commands. After that email me the Aprilaire event log. This driver is working for other customers not sure why it wouldn't work for you.

There was incorrect syntax in the Command Builder xml file. The Set Point commands do not need the ~Set parameter. Use Client|1~HeatSetPoint~72
The updated driver has the updated Command Builder file.

Will this driver support the 6504 Zone Controller (4 zones)?

In theory yes, but we won't know for sure until it is tested.

Hi Texsum and Dave.

I am quite bit confused since the Aprilaire 6504 Zone Control does not seem to be controllable- I have take a look over the installation manual (attached) and not found any communicating port ( either RS232 or RS485). Even more the 6504 only supports 8570 Aprilaire thermostat which are not neither communicating enabled

So appreciate you clarify which Aprilaire devices are controllable by the MLS driver

Tks

The driver supports all the 8000 series thermostats. Usually you have to have one of the Aprilaire 8811 RS-485 to RS-232 Protocol Adapter for the 8870 to connect the RS-485 buss the thermostats sit on to something that the PC can connect too. I assume you could wire one of these into that controller. In all cases the driver will be talking directly to the individual thermostat.

Thanks Dave its what I thought in deed the 8870 has been discontinued and only the 8800 its availabe. The 6504 zone controller its not enabled with a communication port neither the required thermostat

Thanks

Dave,

I am in the process of moving almost all home automation control to Cinemar as my primary solution (with ISY), so you are probably going to hear a lot from me.....

I have installed the Aprilaire thermostat driver but I seem unable to create thermostat or even have the driver settings stick between MLServer restarts.

I installed the driver, started MLServer, went to the Climate Family Manager, clicked "Add", created "Climate1"|"Aprilaire"|"Thermostat"|"COM4". I then went to the Aprilaire Driver (via "Show Driver") but I cannot do anything. The baud rate settings are both empty (so I click 19200) and a row exists for Climate1, so I set the "TStat Address" to 1, but nothing happens. I have 4 thermostats to be added (TStat 1-4, with 3 bedroom temp sensors on TStat 2) but I cannot figure out how to add them, right clicking anywhere in the thermostat window does not allow me to add/delete.... And, when I restart MLServer the settings in the driver are gone (no baud rate and the TStat for the first entry is gone).

Here is the log file from the driver with my multiple attempts:

Code: Select all

Thoughts as to what I am doing wrong?

- Jeff

In Family Manager have you entered the thermostat number in the address column? Aprilaire thermostats must be addressed by number.
