Tivo and Plex

Postby sonypoolplr » Thu Jun 11, 2015 6:39 pm

I got an email from Tivo today that they are using the Plex app to play movies from network attached devices:

"Access content from your computer with the Plex app.
With the new Plex app, it's easy to view media stored on your computer or network-attached storage device on your HD big screen. Check out how Plex can stream your media from any room. To access Plex, go to TiVo Central > Music & Photos > Plex.
To learn more about Plex, visit plexapp.com"

I was wondering if this will open up the Tivo boxes to somehow be controlled by MLServer for movie playback? If you need a test subject let me know.

One quick test would be to install the MediaPlayer driver and see if it discovers the Tivo boxes as media renderers. If it does then you might be able to stream movies to them if they support the format your movies are ripped in.

I think it might have found it. I selected the Media Player driver and I see my living room TiVo using Telnet port 23. Does this mean it might work for movie playback through Mainlobby?

If the MediaPlayer driver discovered it then there is a possibility. However port 23 is not correct. Is that the port it automatically applied?

No I went back and looked and when I created it in the A/V family I clicked on that one by mistake. I was trying to use Default IP Port. But the TiVo is showing up in the Media Player Driver, media players ( automatically discovered)

If the Tivo is exposing itself as a standard DLNA Media Renderer the the MediaServer/MediaPlayer drive combo should be able to stream to the Tivo player.

I wasn't able to get it to work because the movies I saved to the hard drive using the AVAgent didn't show up under Plex. I am assuming that it was because of the format or way that the files were created?
