Latest AV Agent not playing nice with AnyDVD?

Postby chiphayes » Mon Dec 15, 2014 10:26 am

Dave...

Since installing the latest version of AV Agent (4.0.5457.25601), it seems to be having an odd effect on AnyDVD. When I put in a new disk, AnyDVD does its analysis thing as usual, but as soon as AV Agent reports that a new disk has been detected, AnyDVD becomes disabled and throws an error indicating this. When I open settings in AnyDVD, the enable AnyDVD box is unchecked. I have to re-check it and manually click on the copy DVD to disk button in the AnyDVD dialogue box to start a copy.

At first, I thought this was an AnyDVD problem, and tried reverting to earlier versions. But then I disabled AV Agent, and was able to insert and copy a number of disks with AnyDVD without a problem.

Suggestions?

Chip

Edit: To be specific, the AnyDVD icon in the task bar grays out just *before* AV Agent reports that a new disk has been detected.

What operating system are you running on?

This behavior has not changed in years but this is what the Agent is doing
When the AV Agent detects that a new disc is in the drive it
1) Runs AnyTool.exe -d to temporarily disable AnyDVD. It needs to do this because the Agent needs to extract the correct Disc ID from the disc and if AnyDVD is running it will not get the correct ID and the Agent will not correctly identify the movie.

2) Extract the Disc ID from the disc if the disc is a DVD or extract the disc label if the disc is a Blu-Ray.

3) Runs AnyTool.exe -e to re-enable AnyDVD. (This is the part that isn't working for you.)

4) Launches AnyDVD and instructs it to rip the disc

5) Waits for AnyDVD to complete the rip

6) Catalogs the movie using the extracted Disc ID or label.

7) Sends the email.

There have been no changes to this logic in a couple of years. So we will need to figure out why anytool.exe is not re-enabling AnyDVD.

Running windows 7 64bit. I've been ripping a lot of old dvd's the last few weeks, and haven't had any problem until the last AV Agent update.

Can't find any log files, but I may not be looking in the right place (haven't had to delve into any MLServer logs in a while!). Let me know if I'm missing where I can see any AV Agent errors.

I haven't changed any anti-virus or anti-malware programs in a long time, but let me try disabling all of those and see what happens.

Edit: Nope. Virus and malware turned off, it still doesn't re-enable AnyDVD.

Turn on logging in the AV Agent. It must be throwing an error there.

Ah... was looking for the log file in the server... forgot AV Agent was local.

Regardless, it doesn't seem to help any:

This is where AnyDVD throws the error about drive D not being ready. I close that dialogue box and...

Then a minute or so later, it continues and adds all the DVD info to the Content Manager.

Confirmed bug when ripping a DVD. Now fixed in the current release of the Agent.
