SQL crashed on me on the weekend. Dave ended up having to uninstall anything to do with SQL and re-run the installer from the installation assistant. Check with him before doing anything that drastic though.

I do not see nor can I reproduce any of these issues here on 4 different server PCs. I'll need to remote into someone's machine to see what is going on.

Re: ML Server keeps not responding

Postby simonmason » Thu Apr 07, 2016 6:27 am

Hopefully this is helpful in diagnosing this:

What is weird is that the problem persists, even when I step back through previous versions of MLServer. About a week ago I downloaded the latest version of MLServer and it caused problems with all of my clients - they all showed as unregistered. So I stepped back to a previous version and this went away. Then I downloaded this new version over the weekend and the memory error started. So I stepped back to the previous version and the error persisted. So whatever the latest version broke, it did it in a way that persisted when I stepped back through previous versions of MLServer. So I went back to an even older version just to see if it would run without issue.

Re: ML Server keeps not respoding

Anything to report on this? My server is now locking up every day. Also, the clients are locking up as well - I have to kill the MainLobby app and restart it after I have restarted the server. Is there a way I can restore my MLserver setup to a time before this happened - I have the full backups?

Can someone post instructions on how I can wipe it clean and restore from a backup so I can get up and running again? Thanks.

Dave - More reading material for you. MLS loads and now runs maybe two hours prior to sucking up 8 gig of memory and crashing. No MLS errors are being thrown. I think something happened to SQL with one of the updates or it is a combination of a Microsoft update, MS SQL and MLS not getting along. I really wish that MLS was not on MS SQL. When problems like this develop, it is extremely difficult to track down.

Well it seems that Dave is on an extended vacation or on a Bar Rescue project. We all hope that he sighs in this weekend.

I noticed that when I updated MLIrrigation and MLWeather is when I started having problems. I didn't update MLServer, given the issues some of you have been finding. I'm wondering if the problem is with the apps versus the server update? Did you also update any apps when you updated the Server to the most recent version?

Just wondering!

Yes - I actually started that by finding variable issues in both drivers that Dave fixed. I turned them off with no different result.

So today I have been baby sitting my computer and of course, it has been humming along since 6:30am.

The only item different is I am not running chrome and an interface on my MLS machine, but watching MLS on my kitchen touchscreen. One of my posted crashes below is from an XML issue. I am starting to lean toward this really being a Chrome issue in my case. Also, I found a half installed windows 10 update which required two reboots to clean up. Also, I found that UAC got turned back on by Microsoft and I had to go into the registry to kill it completely.

What ever combination I did seemed to fix things. Later today, I will restart chrome on the MLS machine and see what I get.
Thanks!

I updated mlweather at the same time. Perhaps I need to revert back to an older mlweather version?

What I would do is turn off all drivers if you can start MLS. If you can not start it, grasp all of the drive DLL's and place them in a temporary directory and then try starting MLS.

You can also try reverting back to older drivers but the problem may be that the newer driver modified A SQL table and that can not be rolled back unless you do a restore.

My issue in this thread has been tracked to XML and chrome. Chrome is crashing my computer with XML errors and I really do not yet know why.
Thanks!

I reverted back to the previous version of MLWeather (from the end of last year) and it seems to be running. I am also running on MLServer from 4/7/16 as I stayed a couple of versions behind on this because the new versions were causing another error with the clients showing as unlicensed.
