Blink cameras look interesting

Postby simonmason » Sat Jan 09, 2016 9:22 am

These cameras look interesting. Totally wireless, they say that they will provide an API.

I just got my first shipment of Blink cameras and installed a couple. So far so good. I don't think I can interface with MainLobby yet as they haven't released their API - hopefully soon.

Apparently Smarthings have gotten hold of an API or something:

I have to say I am very happy with these cameras. Just peeling off the backing and sticking them where you need them works really well. Would love to have access to them in MainLobby.

I have contacted Blink to see of they can give me access to their API.

Hi, did you hear anything back from them? I love these cameras - just stick and go. I even have two outside, even though they are rated for internal use, and they are working great.

They did respond saying that they do not yet have a public API. But since you own them is it possible for you to just go to a web page and see the cameras or do you have to use their apps? If you can go to a web page I might be able to reverse engineer what they are doing and extract a link to the camera feed that could be used by the GenericIPCamera driver. Let me know if the web page viewing is possible.

App only I am afraid. I see these guys have managed to integrate it into Smart Things (see link below). I actually just bought a Smart Things hub to play around with - $49 on Amazon. My primary interest is to use it for zigbee controls. I intend to develop some existing apis that people have put together to have it talk directly to MainLobby or Homeseer. Naturally the goal is to get it all flowing through my MainLobby touchscreens.
