Totally broken now?

Postby edentel » Sat Jun 18, 2011 2:21 pm

A few days ago I posted about being unable to play certain channels and was advised folks were checking into it.

Today my wife acceptance factor went to zero.... now no channels are working. The ones that failed with 480 errors as detailed in the other post are still failing with 480 errors.

Every other channel now refuses to play. It was working fine yesterday and no changes occured overnight on my end. I verified my username and password with the online streaming at XM's website and that works fine.

Here's a sample log capture showing both types of failures. Channel 3 dies with 480, and the others 2-8 all simply won't start streaming:

Yes the MLSatRadio plugin is broken. You missed my announcement from yesterday. SiriusXM has turned off the legacy WMA feeds that their streams used to use. They have now switched over to encrypted RTMP audio streams that are used by the Flash player on their website. Because these streams are now encrypted it will be very difficult, if not impossible, to get the MLSatRadio plugin working again. This is obviously totally out of our control. I am working on trying to get something working but like I mentioned it may be impossible because of the encryption. The best you can do is watch this forum for an announcement.

We are also working on alternate streaming music services like Last.fm, Internet radio and hopefully Pandora if I can convince them we are worthy of getting access to their API.

Aw crap. Any chance of Russound ST2 support from the plugin?

Son of a gun! Just after I called XM and had them remove my XMPCR from the account and paid to enable the online service!

Since their flash player CAN decrypt and play, have you considered using some sort of script to control the flash player which could be running in a browser on the client?

Yes I have but there are a lot of downsides

1) The reliability of simulating keyboard presses and mouse clicks on the Flash player web page

2) If the first works then the stream will only play through the default sound card on the PC. Multi-zones are out.

There will be a solution to this. Many developers of third party streaming apps are working on this so it will only be a matter of time before something is working again. Because we are too small to ask for the official protocol it is up to the community to reverse engineer the solution.

This is EXACTLY what I suspected when XM and Sirius merged. Eliminate the competition then squeeze the consumer. Hopefully you can come up with something, Dave, otherwise I'm going to sell all my XM radios and cancel my subscriptions. I'm sending an email to XM complaining of this tactic - all subscribers should.

I ended up jury rigging the ST2 by coding the Generic device in the plugin to control the RussoundST2 plugin. It's a little more of a kludge than I like but at least it works.

Any chance of native ST2 support in MLSatRadio directly?

Yes - I don't know if it will show up as a Version 3 item but it will definitely be a version 4 device driver.

So, how does this affect physical radios? About this time I stopped getting anything out from my XMPCR (using either MLSatRadio or XMLobby). Interestingly, the 6 year old app that came with the radio still works. Because logging isn't persisent in the plugins, I can't see startup errors (there is nothing in the MLServer log).

Thanks,
Gerry

It only affects Internet streaming. Physical radios are not an issue. You need to check your subscription settings. Legacy users with lifetime options where terminated also radios that had not verified recently were shut down.
