Switches/Commands

Postby benny32 » Thu Oct 28, 2010 7:43 am

I really prefer VLC to other media players but currently can't seem to get away from a keyboard/mouse while using it, and that is a deal breaker. I would like to be able to adjust audio stream, subtitles, etc, from a button press on my remote and not have to dig out my wireless keyboard/mouse to do it. Is this possible with the current VLC plugin?

What kind of remote are you using? My response will be different depending on the remote you plan on using.

I use a viliv x70 (7" UMPC) as a remote.

To clarify a couple points. The problem I have is that I have to change my audio device from stereo to 5.1 and disable subtitles every single time I play a movie in vlc and this requires keyboard/mouse. I would just like it to default to zero subtitles (with the ability cycle through them with the remote) and to default to 5.1. Maybe this is something that vlc can already do but I'm just not aware of it.

I use the VLC plugin nearly every night to watch movies and it works great. Right now you have add some switches to the startup parameters to select subtitle 99 and the appropriate audio track. Depending on what version of VLC you are running these switches will vary. You can find the correct ones on the VideoLan wiki. I do have an update for the plugin that makes it work better with VLC 1.4 and as soon as I fix a couple of other higher priority issues I'll release that update.

Looking to make the leap to VLC...any status updates on the new plug-in?
