Client status as variable

Postby rileydog » Tue May 18, 2010 7:19 am

It would be really great if the Client status could be a variable (connected, closed) -- this goes for Theatertek too... I could also setup server rules accordingly.

Reason is that this variable can be used to help me manage theater PC's that are on/off - I turn off the power of unused media PC's and when the user selects a movie, the PC turns on - this status is a perfect indicator when the PC is ready to be used (much better than PC on/off status because it could still be in the startup phase).

Excellent idea. Version 3.90.10 of the VLC plugin adds the new status variable VLN_<<HOSTNAME>>_Connected, 1 means connected, 0 means disconnected. I'm going to roll this similar logic into all the other agents.

Any chance this variable can be added to the theatertek plugin? Got my new scenes to save power for 4 computers but need the variable to make it work. Thanks.

Version 3.5.145 of the TheaterTek plugin has the new variable.

There is a problem I think - need to set the variable so it isn't fast, I am not able to trigger server events off the changes in these variables.

Another more minor point - any chance to use the alias? Using the IP in the variable is a pain - I can work around this, but it is more code and I hate hard coding IP addresses... All my variables play off the alias and my scenes have no IP context.

Thanks,

Version .146 uses the alias. None of the server variables are set in fast mode.
