Dave and Mario,

Forgive me for pressing a point, but I have addressed this issue before. When I suggested that the Netflix plugin wiki be updated with necessary information vital to setup, I got this answer:

"wiki is public. anyone can makes edits to it"

Really guys, I know that and all the regular users know that. My point is this. If you want to spend less time answering forum posts about basic plugin setup and more time building a better product, it would seem in your best interest to take the initiative here. Who's running this company?

It sounds like Cinemar would like the users to do the work of documenting their software.

I would be happy to send you a bill for all the hours I have spent farting around trying to figure out why something is not working in a plugin only to discover that important information was either not entered into the wiki, or not written in a way the average user could understand it.

Yes, anyone can edit the wiki ... but I would never assume I have enough experience to make that move. Especially if others were at risk of wasting time because the information in the wiki was not accurate. It seems to me those who create the software would be best qualified to author and update the wikis.

The fact that very few forum users ever edit a wiki should make this point to you. It's not our job, because it's not our company.

And by the way, all of Dave's responses to my questions in the above post are probably valuable information which should be incorporated into the wiki for this plugin.

Sorry - failed nerd humor.

You didn't answer my main question. Do you plan on trying to play Netflix movies on the same PC as MainLobby? I have a possible solution for that if this is the case.

I am thinking of trying out NetFlix and from what I see here running ML client and Netflix Silverlight player on same system may be a problem.

Can the Netflix Silverlight player be assigned to monitor 2 of a system?

Thats how I use TheaterTek. MainLobby on Monitor 1 and TheaterTek on Monitor 2 and both attached to different inputs on my TV. I can flip back and forth with a remote control (FireFly) using MLGC100 commands.

Hi Dave,

Apology accepted. Sorry I got on the soapbox.

I plan on using the new Coby Kyros tablet for the ML side and view the movies on HD flat panels. I was thinking this could be accomplished with one PC, since the Kyros tablet runs Android 2.2 software with built-in wifi and can run ML with Splashtop remote software. I can't justify spending $700 for an iPad just to use it as a remote. The 7" Kyros is $160 and pretty sweet.

What is your idea?

So it sounds like you a J.J. have the same question. The primary display is occupied by MainLobby and you want to play the media on a secondary monitor. The easiest thing to try is to manually launch Internet Explorer on the PC. Drag IE to the secondary monitor and then close IE. You only have to do this once. The next time IE is launched it will launch on the secondary monitor. When you try to play a Netflix movie it too will launch on the second monitor. I've tried that here and it seems to work fine. Does this solve the issue?

Dave,

Could you clarify what the Netflix Silverlight player is?

Is it a plugin for IE or a plugin for MS Media Center?

Just want o get a hold of what it is and why you need IE to run it.

Maybe. I'm still waiting for my Kyros tablet. I was wondering about regular ML scenes which use MLWebLobby. Using your suggestion, will the WebLobby windows come up on the 2nd monitor or still appear on the ML monitor ... or be displayed on both at the same time?

>>>> Could you clarify what the Netflix Silverlight player is?

Netflix has to wrap all their movies in some nasty DRM in order to make the movie studios happy. They have chosen to use a Microsoft DRM system called PlayReady and have wrapped this into a video player using Microsoft Silverlight. There is no stand-alone Netflix movie player for a PC. So we have to emulate watching the movie in a browser.

>>>> Is it a plugin for IE or a plugin for MS Media Center?

It is packaged as an ActiveX add on to Internet Explorer and other web browsers.

>>>> Just want to get a hold of what it is and why you need IE to run it.

So in order for us to play the Netflix movie we launch a copy of Internet Explorer running in kiosk mode (-k startup switch) then send keystrokes to the Internet Explorer to control the player. This gives us the best viewing experience since it launches the player full screen and automatically plays the movie.

>>> I was wondering about regular ML scenes which use MLWebLobby. Using your suggestion, will the WebLobby windows come up on the 2nd monitor or still appear on the ML monitor ... or be displayed on both at the same time?

WebLobby is a different beast. WebLobby uses an ActiveX control that launches a copy of Internet Explorer. That's how you can embed a web page inside the Mainlobby flash client. You could not tell WebLobby to open on a second screen. However you could probably build an overlay that you could move to the second screen when launched using MLCmds. If you did have a Web page that you wanted to open in IE you could use a MLFileOpen command. Something like

MLFileOpen|C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IExplore.exe~-k "<<THE DESIRED WEB URL>>"~1

Thanx for the explanation Dave

I guess I will order MLNetFlix and give it a try.
I can order the Netflix free for a month.

Thanks Dave.

I just wanted to confirm that WebLobby windows would not open on the 2nd Monitor (main family movie viewing monitor) when the ML client opened a WebLobby window on the 1st Monitor (main ML monitor).

Once you are in the Netflix window in kiosk mode, it can be tricky to figure how to exit or browse further. Below are some kiosk key strokes from Microsoft webpage that will help:

Key combination Function
-----------------------------------------------------------
CTRL+A Select all (editing)
CTRL+B Organize favorites
CTRL+C Copy (editing)
CTRL+F Find (on current page)
CTRL+H View History folder
CTRL+L Open Location dialog box
CTRL+N New window (opens in non-Kiosk mode)
CTRL+O Open Location dialog box (same as CTRL+L)
CTRL+P Print
CTRL+R Refresh
CTRL+S Save
CTRL+V Paste (editing)
CTRL+W Close (same as ALT+F4)
CTRL+X Cut (editing)
ALT+F4 Close
ALT+LEFT ARROW Back
ALT+RIGHT ARROW Forward
ESC Stop
F5 Refresh

Dave I got Netflix sort of up & running.

1. I tried the above solution to play NetFlix on second monitor. Works if I manually launch IE each time. Once the NetFlix agent launches it for Netflix, launches on monitor 1 and anytime I laucnch IE manually after that it launches on Monitor 1.

2. Netflix does not launch in full screen and the commands only seem to work in full screen and only if I put a "MLNetFlix|Focus" in front of them. Each time I launch a movie, the event log in NetFlix Agent gives an error saying "Failed to make the Silveright player full screen"

Hi Ron
Did You manage to get Coby Kyros tablet to work with ML? I've just bought one when visiting US and would also like to use it as a 'remote'. You say that yours has Android 2.2. I believe mine is 2.1(stated also at cobyusa.com),is there an update?? When I search for SplashTop Remote I din't find it in the market, where did you find yours.Sorry asking so many questions but if this works I think a lot of people would be interested in this 'cheap' solution.

Coby Kyros has an update on the home page of the website. The link is to a zipped file with an instructional video on how to do the update.

I have discovered that the Kyros tablet does NOT use the standard Droid Marketplace app for downloading applications to the tablet. That's why you couldn't find SplashTop in the app search. It uses a modified version and that's a real bummer :(

This can be rectified, but requires a somewhat risky modification to the Android OS called "Rooting". This basically allows "special permissions" access the OS. There are a few You Tube videos on how to root the Kyros tablet. Be warned that if you do not follow the instructions correctly, you could brick your tablet, ie. make it un-usable without recovery. I do not recommend this approach.

The second roadblock seems to be that SplashTop remote software is not supported on the Kyros tablet as of yet. As Mario mentioned, the support staff at SplashTop is responsive to requests and I do think Kyros will soon by on the list of supported hardware.

Bottom line ... the Kyros tablet can be made to run ML, it's not quite ready for prime time. But for $160 dollars, it's a very nice tablet and is worth keeping on your radar.

Hi
I've stumlbled over Wise PocketCloud http://www.wyse.com/products/software/pocketcloud/android/index.asp and it works ok on android tablet besides some difficulties to get right screensize and a little bit slow in respons. It's free for download and the pay for pro variant gives a few more screen resolutions but otherwise the same product. Waiting for someone to develop a real android app!
