MLPowerDVD Beta Announced

Postby DavidL » Sun Dec 09, 2007 11:27 pm

MLPowerDVD is a plugin that sends PowerDVD software DVD player control commands. This allows for applications like DVDLobby375 to control BluRay and HD DVD movies.

Because PowerDVD does not support sending data from the player, this is a one way communication plugin.

MLPowerDVD is available via MLServer3 / Help / Additional Software Downloads / Beta / MLPowerDVD download.

Documentation wiki is here:

Please keep this thread for announcements only. Please open a new thread for discussions of MLPowerDVD.

I added some info into the wiki.
Not tested yet. Feel free to try and then post results.

Have you tried the plugin? working for you? any errors in the log or unexpected results?

MLPowerDVD Blu-ray?

Postby Funboy » Sun Dec 16, 2007 7:08 pm

Works great for HD DVD. How about Blu-ray? There doesn't appear to be a single file that you can open via PowerDVD.

The only way to play them via PowerDVD is to open up the folder.

I think the PlayFile commad needs to be altered to support a folder name.

The Wiki shows help for the MLGC100 plugin instead of MLPowerDVD. Also, will this be a free or priced product? It'd be nice to know before getting involved in a beta product what Cinemar plans to charge for it once it's out of beta.

Latest PowerDVD doesn't work

Postby Funboy » Mon Dec 17, 2007 11:18 pm

I just upgraded to the latest build of PowerDVD and the PowerDVD agent no longer works.

When I issue a PLAYMOVIE command, PowerDVD starts up and then I get an error:

Error Code: 80040218
Internal error.
The error code is undefined.

Looks like something broke. It's PowerDVD Version 7.3 Ultra.

PowerDVD no longers plays from HDD

Postby Funboy » Fri Dec 21, 2007 10:23 am

It gets even worse. With the latest update, PowerDVD no longer plays HD or BD conent from a HDD. Since I hate swaping discs, I've always stored all of my DVD, HD and BD content on a NAS RAID. I used TheaterTek for the DVD content and PowerDVD for HD and BD.

But with this crazy new update, I can no longer use PowerDVD for HD or BD.

Update on use of MLPowerDVD

Postby Funboy » Tue Dec 25, 2007 4:19 pm

Okay, so here's the update on MLPowerDVD, PowerDVD and HD DVDs stored on a hard drive.

With a bit of elbow grease I was able to get everything working. So here's the setup now:

I store all of my HD DVDs and Blu-rays on my NAS RAID. I conver them to a UDF compliant ISO format. I can then use Daemon Tools to mount the ISO and make it appear as if it's an optical media drive.

From the mounted drive I can use MLPowerDVD to open up the file and play it. However there is some slight changes I had to make to get this to work. First off, my main MLServer runs on a different computer than my HTPC. My HTPC runs a zero client MLServer. In order for my main MLServer to be able to mount a drive on the HTPC I had to issue a remote command. And in the same command I wanted to be able to fire up PowerDVD, so I had to install the MLPowerDVD on my HTPC rather than on my main MLServer computer. I actually believe this is where it should be installed if you have a MLServer running on your HTPC.

Here's an example of the command I use for HD DVD playback (I replaced the ! with a carriage return for ease of reading:

MLServeCmd[192.168.1.11].MLServeCmd.Macro|MLPowerDVD|DhunayTV~POff
MLPause|1
MLFileOpen|"C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools Lite\daemon.exe" -unmount 0
MLFileOpen|"C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools Lite\daemon.exe" -mount 0, "V:\<<FIXEDTITLE>>\<<FIXEDTITLE>>.iso"~0
MLPowerDVD|DhunayTV~PlayMovie~<<FILE>>

I could have created a separate command for HD DVDs which would eliminate the need for specifying a <<FILE>>, but for now I've left it this way.

I'm going to continue to experiment with this and see what develops. The MLPowerDVD seems to work fine for controlling PowerDVD and launching HD DVD movies. It cannot today be used for lauching Blu-rays (or at least I haven't figured it out)...I did consider using the PlayList feature to create a playlist of all the blu-ray files...not to keen on that.

I'll post more as I continue to experiment with this.

HD DVD in DVDLobby

Postby Funboy » Fri Dec 28, 2007 10:55 pm

That is exactly what I have done.

I've put HD DVD and Blu-ray movies into DVDLobby. I then use this command from within DVDLobby to load and play the movie:

MLServeCmd[192.168.1.11].MLServeCmd.Macro|MLPowerDVD|DhunayTV~POff
MLPause|1
MLFileOpen|"C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools Lite\daemon.exe" -unmount 0
MLPause|1
MLFileOpen|"C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools Lite\daemon.exe" -mount 0, "V:\<<FIXEDTITLE>>\<<FIXEDTITLE>>.iso"~0
MLPowerDVD|DhunayTV~PlayMovie~<<FILE>>

This works fine for most titles. Some titles don't appear to work properly for some strange reason. I'm thinking it's a problem with how they are put onto my HD. I'm working on solving this.

In the meantime, the one issue I need the Cinemar folks to resolve is playing Blu-ray titles. With Blu-ray titles there is no "file" to play, so the PLAYMOVIE command doesn't work. PLAYMOVIE needs to be modified to optionally support a file name. If none is supplied then it should default to playing a Blu-ray title.

Let me know if you need details.

Are you using fast mount (plug in) for daemon tools?
it basically mounts the movie( iso file ) the minute its selected

How are u getting dvdlobby to add the movies from the raid?

should i not be using that in your set up?

can you also tell me exactly what programs you have installed making this all work?

FYI...I'll be communicating with bocapimp via PM. If anyone else is interested in more details, please PM me.

Cinemar folks, if you want me to share this info with everyone I can put together a detailed outline of how everything works and post it on the forum.

Funboy, that would be great.
I already posted some of your info on the Wiki for MLPowerDVD. Maybe you could post it there?

Funboy,

To support Bluray with Power DVD :-

Set the default playback device in Powerdvd to the drive letter you have set up in Daemon tools.

Mount the ISO file as you are at the moment

Issue a play command to PowerDVD.
