Interesting announcement from Nuvo

Postby couj » Fri Jun 27, 2008 5:29 pm

Interesting announcement from Nuvo reported on the CePro website:

06.24.2008 — NuVo Technologies is introducing Music Port, which enables desktop and laptop PCs to act as both sources and controllers for the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia E6G multiroom audio systems.

The Music Port consists of the NV-MP, a hardware device that can be installed on a wall or in a rack, and PC software.

It can be installed as an upgrade to an existing system or as part of a new system. It works with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows Home Server and provides metadata such as cover art.

The Music Port transforms a PC into a multi-output source for a NuVo system. For example, if two 5.1 sound cards are installed on a PC, Music Port uses them to output up to six streams that can be accessed from NuVo's in-wall OLED Control Pads.

Music Port aggregates iTunes, Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center libraries into one library that can be browsed by playlist, track, artists, album, genre or favorites.

Music Port and the NuVo system reproduce the music as it sounds on the PC without conversion or compression, NuVo says.

Any Web-enabled desktop or laptop PC or touchscreen connected to the home network can control the system with wired or wireless devices.

NuVo Music Port is expected to ship in August for $999.

Agreed, except that it seems that the grand concerto keypads can retrieve metadata from music port whereas no-one seems to be able to confirm whether or not this can be done with musiclobby and the nuvo plugin.
