Device file causes errors

Postby cborod » Wed Jul 16, 2008 12:47 pm

I recently shared my setup for a Xantech ZPR68 but the end user reports upon import, the server halts and mlgd stops.

As I have no issues running the plugin myself, I'm asking on behalf of myself and those who might want to use my file what error is embedded and what can be done to fix it.

Device file attached.

MLserver ver. 3.0.527
mlgd ver. 3.0.463

Thanks in advance for the insight.

Hey cborod,

This is what I get in my MLServer log after I try to import ZPR68-10. This file crashes my MLS and MLGD.

MLS continues to log for about 10 seconds before it locks up and reboots software automatically via the MLWatchdog

RPalori

File c:\documents and settings\ryan palori\desktop\xantech_zpr68.xml cannot be found

Did you unzip the zip file manually? Or did you let the MLGenericDevice Import utility unzip for you (required)?

You have the file saved in a non standard place.

"Files downloaded from Additional Software Downloads get sent to the MLServer\Downloaded Files directory. This is also the directory that your 3rd party drivers (the .zip file) should be copied to. Do not unzip the file as the Import utility in MLGD will do that correctly for you. Once the file is there, click the Import button and browse the Downloaded Files directory for your driver file. Click on the file, and then click the Open button. You should now see the new driver in the Controlled Devices tab. "

I copied zip file to MLServer/Downloaded files directory and imported zip file from that directory. It still locked up my MLGD and MLS. I even tried it at another one of my jobs with the same results. I redownloaded the file again just to make sure the file wasnt currupt.

I tried importing another zip file device from my desktop and it works fine.

what do you think?

Open up the zip file and rename the zip file as "xantech zpr68.zip" instead of "xantech_zpr68.zip". This should fix the issue.

If that is "the fix", then the MLGD export function will need correction so as to create a valid and usable named file. In creating the export there was no option for file naming or location.

Tracy, again, thaanks as always for your insight.

It is greatly appreciated.

The name is what you create. It just needs to be consistent with what is in the zip and what the zip is called.

Tracy,

You are right, changing the file name fixed the problem. I imported the file name

Xantech ZPR68.zip with no problem

Xantech_ZPR68.zip crashes my MLS

Thanks

Chris:
Can you check the original export file name? I am wondering if the webserver changed the name on upload to remove the spaces. As far as I know, MLGD should be consist in it naming, but I would apprecriate if you would check for me.

Thanks
Tracy

interesting, yes.

The original file had no underlines when I set it for uploading.

To be sure, I've also re-generated the export this morning.

The original file has no underlines. I have attached it verbatim.

We'll see if the webserver did the deed.

AND....the post shows the file with no underlines

BUT....an attempt to download shows a file with underlines......

So, webserver is culprit, but is it the upload or the download?

Probably the best idea is not use spaces in the device names. I can modify MLGD to always replace " " with "_", but would prefer not to modify the users device name if I don't have to.

thanks for checking into that for me.

Tracy
