Want to WOL your computer from Sleep or Hibernation?

Postby mry110 » Sun Nov 30, 2008 12:39 pm

OK so I have read through a few messages from people who have been trying to wake their computer from sleep or hibernation. The trick is to of course make sure WOL is enabled in your BIOS, AND configure you network adaptor so it can be WOL.

Go into System>Device Manager> Network Adaptors> Open your network adaptor. Select the power management tab and make sure the "Allow this device to wake the computer" is check marked. You will also want to put a check mark in the box that says "Only allow management stations to wake the computer". This setting makes it so only a magic packet will wake the computer, otherwise if this is not checked a simple ping will wake the computer.

My only warning is the wake from sleep may act funny the first time you try it. When I did it the first time, it seemed like a regular reboot. I think this may have something to do with changing the device setting without a reboot. The subsequent WOL from sleep brought me to the desktop instantly.

Hope this helps everyone! Now I am off to purchase the plugin.
