WMIClient on Vista?

Postby kirkfrey » Sun Mar 11, 2007 11:27 am

Not sure if anyone else is having this issue but I just installed WMICLient on VIsta and am getting the following error when I go to launch it:
Component 'tabctl32.ocx' or one of its dependencies not corretly registered: a file is missing or invalid

Thoughts?

If you upgrade to a later version of MainLobby Server3, that file is now installed there. So, update to the latest MainLobby Server 3 and you should be good to go with that file.

Kirk, redownload the MLWMI installer. I added that file to the MLWMIClient installer so you don't have to install MLServer on that PC.
Thanx

kirkfrey,
I just installed on Vista and it is working fine.

Look for that file in the System32 directory. Make sure it's registered with Windows.

Follow the Vista installation instructions at the top of the most recent MLServer and MainLobby Client installation guide.

There are some issues with the MLWMI client installer package on Vista. For some reason, even if you are logged in as an administrator two of the VB controls do not get registered. I had to manually register them.

The two controls that caused problems are: tabctl32.ocx and mswinsck.ocx

The way to get them registered is this:
1) type \windows\system32 in the RUN box. This will open up file explorer to that location
2) Locate cmd.exe, right click on it and choose run as administrator
3) in the cmd box, enter the following:
regsvr32 \windows\system32\tabctl32.ocx
regsvr32 \windows\system32\mswinsck.ocx

This will correctly register the controls. You only need to do this once. This assumes that you have the controls install but they are not registering.

This problem only occurs on Vista, and for some reason has occured on every Vista touchscreen I have (4 of them).

Alternatively you can turn off UAC (instructions for which are found in the MainLobby installation instructions on the wiki) and then register the controls.
