Update on the Update

Postby DaveB » Wed Jan 16, 2008 4:54 pm

Hi all;
Is there any update on the progress of the driver revisions or any preliminary availability targets?
Thanks!

Actually to expand on the post above, I want to wrap up my control system in my own home for once and I am at a crossroads. I am trying to finish the lighting control portions of my implementation. I currently am controlling all UPB lighting through the HAI panel. I am trying to decide if I should pull that functionality from the HAI panel and directly control the UPB from the MLS Server, or hold on a bit longer for the added functionality of the revised driver set.

ANy insight would be great.
Thanks!

sharing from my situation

i control 80-90% of my lighting "automated" events direct from the hai panel. these are setup using pcaccess to the hai panel and rarely chnge year to year.

ie,
zone trip = light on
dark flag=light on
motion detect=light on/off
time event=light off/on
timer=light on/off
time of day
car in the driveway trip the cartell sensor trip the panel

these are all "must occur" events. No matter what happens to mlserver, homeseer, client workstation, these events happen because the panel itself is up.

For ad-hoc programming, user interaction to set a mood, etc, I use ml to trigger

for show, i use the ml lighting plugin, home theater interaction, ml lighting plugin

like i said, my whole ml, hs, network, router can be down, but the truly magic/automated lighting events that must happen without fail get executed right in the panel...

hth

Yea - Same mode I am in - mission critical stuff is all in the panel and scene control and button grouping is done with MLS. I like the idea of my mission critical stuff being driven from a non-pc device. Way too much can go wrong on the network side.

I know that David was talking about adding some of the more advanced functionality as in the existing direct lighting control in ML/MLS to work through the HAI driver. In other words, adding the HAI panel as a selection available under the existing MLLighting plugin.
Thanks!

Actually, that is now a little dated DaveB,
What is planned is that the HAI panel's plugin might respond to

Lighting|some alias~some command~some parameter

this is how the MLInsteonPLM plugin works and is aligned with the newer "family" command structure.

the HAI plugin would "subscribe" to the "Lighting", "Security" and potentially other "families" of commands. MLServer then knows where to route incoming commands for action.

and the cool stuff you've done with dvd lobby is well worth the effort and the wait.

likewise, a little longer on mlhai is no big deal, especially with what you have to accomplish to update it.

my $.02

Since we're being hopeful.......

Will the new variant of the plug-in support the HAI concept of buttons? (the built-in macro system )?:
Will the new variant support a toggle command so as to toggle on/off/on a unit (fan, light, flag)?

Please, Thank you, and uh whatever other good manners might have effect.........

To add to the above, the newest version of the panel BIOS also added the ability to increase and decrease the temperature by a degree per push or command. No longer do you need to stand on your head to change the temperature.
Thanks!

HAI has told us we are on their short list to provide the SDK of their new firmware when it is available. That was a few weeks ago.
