Playing audio through Mainlobby PCs

Postby Scott » Tue Apr 08, 2008 3:01 pm

Is there a way to have it when something is said through MLSpeak that it will be said through all PCs running Mainlobby? For example I was trying to make it say the callerID message through all the Mainlobby clients when the phone rings.

You would have to have MLServer zero client license and the MLSpeak Plugin and the SAPI 5 voice codecs installed on all PCs that you want to do the speaking.

You would then route the MLServeCmd.MLSpeak|Say something~ to all MLServer PCs using a "redirect" command (outlined in the Wiki).

If one PC's audio output is being routed to a whole house amplifier setup (Russound Cav66, GrandConcerto, other) then you would distribute the audio in that more traditional architecture.

This seems like overkill just to get multiple computers talking, though it would be cool. Could I also just create some talking wave/mp3 files that say "The phone is ringing" or "The timer went off in the kitchen", etc. Then have ML server command play the sound using media center or TheaterTek that would already be installed on the client computer.

You could probably use MLClientSvc to send Windows Media Player the song. But, that would open up the app first. might be a way to do that with it minimized. TheaterTek would work. MediaCenter too.

MainLobby can also play sound files directly.
